iPhone X Comparison: Is the Most Powerful iPhone Ever Worth the Extra Cash?

See What Stands Out in the iPhone XS Max with This iPhone X Comparison

Apple announced three new versions of the iPhone X. Is the iPhone XS Max worth splashing out for? Find out with our iPhone X comparison.

In the first quarter of 2018, Apple sold more than 77 million phones worldwide.

The iPhone has consistently been among the biggest selling phones in the world since it was first introduced in 2007. It has helped turn Apple into one of the most profitable companies in the world.

And Apple shows no sign of slowing down. This year they introduced three brand new models to their lineup: the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max

The iPhone XS Max is the most sophisticated (and expensive) iPhone ever made. Is the extra expense worth it? Read on to learn more, with our iPhone X comparison.

Size

The most obvious difference between the three models is the size.

The XS is the smallest of the 3, at 5.65 x 2.79 inches. The XS Max is a whopping 6.2 x 3.05 inches. The XR falls somewhere in between, at 5.94 x 2.98 inches.

In terms of depth, the iPhone XR comes out a little thicker, at 0.33 inches compared to 0.3 for the XS and XS Max.

Display

For screen real estate, the XS Max is the big winner with a 6.5-inch display.

The XS has a display size of 5.8 inches. The XR falls in the middle with a 6.1-inch display. If you're looking for a big display for video or gaming, then the XS Max is the one to go for. It is the largest display ever seen on any iPhone.

In terms of resolution, the XS and XS Max both have liquid retina OLED displays at 458 ppi, whilst the XR has a more modest liquid retina LCD display at 326 ppi.

Camera

Both XS models have dual 12MP wide angle and telephoto cameras on the back with 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.

In comparison, the XR has a single 12MP camera, with no optical zoom included. It is capable of 5x digital zoom. The XS models clearly have superior cameras, although the XR does still come with portrait mode.

Battery

The battery life of the XR comes out the slight winner as it is powering a lower resolution display than the XS models.

But the XS Max is only slightly behind, with two hours less internet use and one hour less video playback time. In comparison, the XS offers five hours less talk time than the other two models.

Price

The iPhone XS Max is Apple's most expensive iPhone ever, at $1249 for the 256GB version.

The XS comes in at $1149 for 256GB and the XR is $899 for 256GB. If you're looking for an affordable phone with great specs, then the XR is probably a good choice. But if you're looking for the best iPhone that money can buy, and need a large display for video and gaming, then there's only one option: the XS Max.
